The initiative is an important contribution to Hitachi Energy's ambitious sustainability goals.
Hitachi Energy Norway's service workshop for transformers and high-voltage equipment is located at Holmestrandsveien 117 in Drammen.
Hitachi Energy is a leading global power and energy company. They focus on supporting the transition to a sustainable energy system through power transmission equipment, smart grid technology and the integration of renewable energies such as wind and solar, not least by servicing and maintaining critical components of the power supply. The aim is to contribute to a greener and more reliable energy mix.
This commitment is strengthened through Hitachi Energy's ambitious sustainability goal to become carbon neutral in its own operations by 2030. Installing solar cells on your own buildings will be an important contribution to achieving this goal, and this week Sunday Power has funded and installed a 160 kilowatt photovoltaic system on the roof of the property.
“We are proud to have commissioned the solar photovoltaic system here in Drammen. Hitachi Energy has solar photovoltaic systems on other buildings in Europe, but this is the first in Norway,” says Brede Slåtten, head of the company's Drammen division.
The file displays the dashboard from the SundayOS software. On this day at the end of August, the solar power from the new plant covers 100% of the building's consumption, in addition to charging six electric cars.
He adds that the green focus is central to the service workshop in Drammen. Its core business over the decades has been to extend the life of existing transformers and switching plants, so that customers do not have to buy new material prematurely. This is how the service workshop has become a “center of circular economy”.
“Our shared focus on quality and sustainability made Sunday Power an excellent match,” Slåtten continues.

Selected model that does not require investment
The expansion of the building in Holmestrandsveien was completed this year and Hitachi Energy moved in in April. Carnegie manages the building on behalf of building owner Kobbervikdalen Kombinationseiendom AS.
“Both the owner and the tenant saw it as natural that the modern building should have a solar system on the roof that supplies the building with green electricity. The plant is estimated to produce approximately 120,000 kWh a year, which corresponds to a saving of over 50,000 kg of CO2 a year,” says Anja Kathrin Tandberg, Asset Manager at Carnegie.
The choice fell on Sunday Power's Solar as a Service model, which involves Sunday Power financing the plant through its partnership with NTE, as well as taking care of everything from installation to monitoring, operation and maintenance. This allows both the building owner and Hitachi Energy to focus on their core business, and achieve a greener and more energy-efficient building, at no extra cost.
“Sunday Power makes it easy to make a green choice, without building owners tying up capital or taking on operational or financial risk,” says Tandberg.
Proud to contribute to Hitachi Energy's sustainability efforts
“We are very pleased to have built this solar plant in Holmestrandsveien on behalf of Carnegie, Kobbervikdalen Kombinationsseiendom AS and their tenants Hitachi Energy Norway,” says Rikard af Ekenstam, Chief Commercial Officer of Sunday Power.
He commends the actors who are leaders in the Norwegian real estate sector and modern sustainable energy networks.
Clear trend among professional real estate agents
“The strongest driver for installing solar cells for commercial buildings in Norway is to increase the value of the property portfolio. By reducing energy costs and improving the energy quality of the buildings, a solar installation makes the properties more sustainable and attractive for both the building owner and the tenant,” says Jonas Ibsen Brynildsrud, CEO of Sunday Power.
He sees a clear trend among the majority of professional real estate agents.
“More and more people want to go for solar, and they want to do it with a partner like Sunday Power, which has the platform, the team and the technology to do this efficiently and with top quality. Beyond the financing itself, our customers point out that it is reassuring to entrust all operations, monitoring and invoicing to a specialized partner, so that they can focus all their time on the core business,” concludes Ibsen Brynildsrud.
