Amundsen Bryggeri brews on solar power

When Spabo chose Solar as Service from Sunday Power, tenant Amundsen Bryggeri got access to renewable solar power from its own roof and the building became greener and more valuable — with no investment costs. The solar plant alone lifted the energy grade for the production building from E to C.

Oslo's largest craft brewery

Amundsen Bryggeri, located in Bjørnerudveien 14 on Hauketo, is the largest craft brewery in Oslo. The brewery has enjoyed rapid growth since its inception in 2011, and has expanded production to a 3500 square meter facility with a 1,500,000 liter brewing capacity.

Now the brewery has received a green boost; the solar photovoltaic system from Sunday Power allows Amundsen Bryggeri to use short-range, renewable solar power directly from the roof.

“The measure fits well with our focus on quality, innovation and passion. Sustainability is part of this. After all, it's pretty cool to think that our products are brewed on solar power. It's sustainability in practice,” says Geoffrey Jansen van Vuuren, General Manager at Amundsen Bryggeri.

Collaboration between tenant, farm owner and Sunday Power

The building owner in Bjørnerudveien 14 is Spabo, a leading long-term Norwegian real estate operator in retail, warehouse and logistics buildings. Jan Spandow, CEO of Spabo, believes that going for solar is an important part of taking environmental responsibility.

“We are working towards making our buildings greener and more energy efficient. By choosing Solar as a service from Sunday Power we succeed in that without taking the investment or incurring operational responsibilities. That makes it easy to make a green choice,” Spandow says.

The 324 kWp plant can produce up to 255,000 kWh a year, which corresponds to a climate saving of 112,000 kg of CO2 per year.

Increased energy rating from E to C

The energy rating provides an overall assessment of the building's energy needs from A (best) to G (weakest). The energy demand is estimated from the number of kilowatt-hours per square metre of heated BRA that the building is designed to need in normal use.

In Bjørnerudveien 14, the solar photovoltaic system alone increased the energy rating by two notches, from E to C.

Helping Property Owners Get Greener, More Valuable Buildings

“As the largest Solar as a Service provider, we have helped several of the country's leading property owners get increased energy quality, satisfied tenants and income from the roof — all at no cost,” says Rikard af Ekenstam, Chief Commercial Officer of Sunday Power.

Solar as a Service involves Sunday Power funding the plant through its partnership with NTE, as well as taking care of everything from installation to monitoring, operation and maintenance. This allows both the farm owner and tenant to focus on their core business, and rest assured that Sunday Power is taking care that the solar plant is producing properly.
